Review: Stila Tinted and Bronzing Moisturizers

When Stila had they're 5 for $5 sale the other week I grabbed a few different products to try. On days where I'm in a rush but still want to look bright-faced, I don't wear foundation of any kind. I've been looking for a decent tinted moisturizer and given the price in the sale, I thought now was the perfect time!

I bought 4 products:
  • Sheer Color Tinted Moisturizer SPF 30 Oil Free in Medium
  • Illuminating Tinted Moisturizer SPF 15 in Shade 01
  • Illuminating Tinted Moisturizer SPF 15 in Shade 02
  • Bronzing Tinted Moisturizer SPF 15
You can see what I think of each here...

Sheer Color Tinted Moisturizer SPF 30 Oil Free in Medium
Feel: This smoothed right into my skin and didn't leave my skin feeling slick or greasy.

You can click this picture to view the ingredients.
Scent: I think this smells a bit like sunscreen. It's subtle and not unpleasant to me, but there!

Effect: This blended right in with my skin tone and left my skin looking dewy, but not tinted in any way.
Sheer Color Tinted Moisturizer SPF 30 in Medium - Here you can see the color of the moisturizer up against my skin. My skin is actually olive, but it skewed a bit fairer under my daylight bulbs.

Here you can see the moisturizer blended into my skin. As you can see, it looks moisturized and blended in nicely.

Illuminating Tinted Moisturizer SPF 15 in 01
Feel: This was not heavy in any way and didn't leave my skin greasy.

Scent: This also smelled slightly like sunscreen, but it was very subtle.

Effect: This gave my skin a slightly dewy look, but wasn't shimmery or super bright.

Stila Illuminating Tinted Moisturizer SPF 15 in 01 - You can see the color of the Illuminating moisturizer if 01 compared to my skin.

As you can see, the illuminating moisturizer in 01 blended right in and left my skin looking fresh and dewy.

Illuminating Tinted Moisturizer SPF 15 in 02
Feel: Like the others, this was lightweight and didn't leave my skin feeling greasy.

Click this image to view the ingredients.
Scent: This had the same scent as the others--a subtle sunscreen scent.

Effect: I thought this added a natural looking dewiness to my skin and was glad it wasn't so light that it lightened my skin.
Stila Illuminating Tinted Moisturizer SPF 15 in 02 - As you can see, this is slightly darker than the 01 shade.

As you can see, the illuminating tinted moisturizer in 02 blended in just as nicely as the 01. This added a dewiness that blended in nicely with my skin.

Bronzing Tinted Moisturizer SPF 15
Feel: This was as lightweight as the rest and didn't feel at all greasy or slick after I smoothed it in.

Scent: Not to sound redundant, but this smelled like the others--subtly like sunscreen.

Effect: This added a subtle, naturally tan glow to my skin. I'm already olive complected, so I thought this worked well with my natural color! I'm very impressed :)

This didn't give me an orange or "tan in a can" look at all. I'm so pleased with it! I'll definitely be using it to keep from looking pasty during the winter ;)

Final Thoughts
I am super, super impressed by all of these! I can't say whether or not they'd irritate my skin long-term (I have very sensitive skin), but I'm hopeful. The colors are all great, they feel great, and they look great. I didn't see much of a difference between 01 and 02 in the Illuminating Moisturizers, but perhaps someone fairer would. I love the bronzer! The only major downside I immediately noticed with these is that they use a chemical sunscreen ingredient rather than zinc and/or titanium dioxide. I'm not a big fan of these, but that's a personal choice. I'll definitely use these in moderation though :) They're too good to just pass over!

  1. I have super sensitive skin, and Stila's tinted moisturizers did irritate me enough that I had to wash it off after an hour or so. It wasn't as bad as one of their foundations, but certainly nothing I could wear again. Of course, I have ridiculously pale skin, and even their lightest shade is too yellow on me.

  2. Good to know! My skins is pretty sensitive too and I only swatched these, so I'll be interested to see how I do with them for a longer period of time. One of my sisters is super pale, she always has the same issue! Hard to find something fair enough!

Have you tried Honey Bee Holistics? I did a review on them a while back. None of the moisturizers are tinted, but my kids, hubs, and I all use them and love them--super natural stuff! Http://www.honeybeeholistics.com

  4. Thanks! Ingredients are very important to me and I avoid different ones when at all possible, but I think everyone should judge for themselves, which is why I talk about performance separate from the ingredients. ;)
